Anyway, If you are a woman planning a pregnancy after 40 years old, it is very important that you discuss the matter with your Ob-Gyne as to what to expect particularly the many risk factors associated with midlife pregnancy.
Your doctor will need to do a thorough medical evaluation, which will include taking down the family history, physical examination, and lab tests. The doctor will need to determine if you have existing medical conditions that may make your pregnancy risky. Such conditions include overweightedness, hypertension and/or heart disease, and diabetes. Some tests that need to be done include complete blood workups, including blood sugar and cholesterol, and an ECG.
The next consideration will be the process by which you want to achieve conception. Most fertility clinics have an age cut off of 54 years old. For women between 40 to 44 years old, she can conceive using her own eggs especially if they have been evaluated to be viable. However, women above 44 are advised to use donor eggs in order to conceive.
These are just a few of the factors that you will need to consider when planning pregnancy over 40.
