A lot of women get confused when their doctor tells them that they have a tipped uterus. Isn’t the uterus a fixed organ in the pelvic cavity? How can it get tipped? Read on to learn more about what a tipped uterus is and if it will affect your chances of getting pregnant.

What is a Tipped Uterus?

A tipped uterus is known by many names. To avoid confusion, here are the common terms used to describe it…

Tilted uterus/womb

Backward uterus

Retroflexed uterus

Retroverted uterus

They are also known by scarier medical terms, such as…

Uterine retroversion or retroflexion

Retroversion of the uterus

Reflexion of the uterus

Symptomatic uterine retroversion

Symptomatic uterine reflexion

Uterine retrodisplacement

What all of these terms simply mean is that the uterus is in an abnormal position inside the pelvic cavity. Normally, the uterus is in a straight up or down position or it can be slightly tilted forward in the direction toward your belly inside the body. When the uterus is “tipped”, it is either tilted forward away from the belly or backwards.

Around 20 percent of women will be born with tipped uteri. In most cases, it occurs in women in their childbearing years. Causes for tipped uteri include the following…

Failure of the uterus to move in a forward position as the woman grows older

Presence of diseases such as fibroid tumors/myomas, endometriosis, and pelvic adhesions

Uterine displacement due to a previous surgical procedure

Tipping of the uterus forward or backward as a consequence of childbirth

Although most women will not experience any symptoms resulting from tipped uteri, there are some who will complain to their doctors with the following…

Collision dyspareunia (pain during sexual intercourse resulting from impact of the penis against the cervix or uterus)

Pelvic pain during menstruation or ovulation

Back pain during menstruation

Frequent urinary tract infections

Mild incontinence

Difficulties in using tampons

Difficulties in trying to get pregnant

Getting Pregnant with a Tipped Uterus

If you are experiencing symptoms and you suspect that you have a tipped uterus, schedule an appointment with your doctor. He or she will need to perform pelvic and/or ultrasound examination to confirm diagnosis.

It must be stressed that having a tipped uterus should not interfere with your fertility. In fact, many women have had their tipped uteri fixed after giving birth to their baby (since the weight of the baby forced the uterus back into its normal position). All other fertility issues should be ruled out before entertaining a tipped uterus as the cause of inability to achieve conception.

What can make having a tipped uterus troublesome is the painful and difficult intercourse. For this reason, the husband should take extra care when making love to his wife. If the tipped uterus is causing problems both symptomatically and for conception, it may be necessary to bring it back to its normal position through uterine suspension surgery. Some physicians would recommend the insertion of a pessary. However, these are to be used with caution since they may cause vaginal infection.

Women who have gone to their gynecologists for a routine pelvic and/or ultrasound examination discover that they have a myoma inside their uterus. This is a cause for concern. Can the myoma interfere with their chances of getting pregnant with a baby?

What are Myomas?

Myomas are more commonly known by the medical term “uterine fibroids” because they are masses in the uterus which are made up of fibrous tissue. Although they are benign (meaning “non-cancerous), they can grow to large sizes so that they distort the size and shape of the womb. Typical myomas range in size from between a few centimeters up to 15 centimeters, although the largest fibroid extracted on record weighed in excess of 100 pounds. These fibroids grow in clusters like grapes. If only one myoma was found on ultrasound, surgery would probably reveal more.

Uterine fibroids are actually very common, with 50 to 80 percent of women having at least one myoma during their lifetime. Most of the time, these myomas are asymptomatic; only 20 percent of women will experience symptoms related to the mass. Around 10 to 30 percent of pregnant women have myomas. This statistic alone will tell you that it is possible to get pregnant even with a myoma, although it can be problematic.

Uterine fibroids will not usually present with symptoms. However, if they grow large enough, a woman can expect to experience the following…

Longer menstrual periods

Heavy bleeding

Pain during sexual intercourse

Bloatedness or constipation

Back or legs pain

Pressure or pain in the pelvis

If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, you might want to get an appointment with your doctor.

Getting Pregnant with A Myoma

Even with the presence of a myoma, it is still possible for a woman to get pregnant. In fact, it is common for myomas to grow in size inside the uterus together with the baby. There will be some minor symptoms, such as light spotting and pelvic pain, especially if the myoma is growing on a thin stalk which gets twisted (a condition known as “fibroid torsion”).

If the uterine fibroid is small, there are very few instances of complications, although there is a higher risk for miscarriage or preterm labor. With constant monitoring, however, most women are able to carry their babies to term.

However, if the fibroids are large, there is a higher chance of complications occurring, which include…

Postpartum hemorrhage

Fetal malpresentation (the baby is in an unusual position because it is displaced by the myoma)

Labor obstruction or stalled labor (because the fibroid is growing into the cervix, thus blocking the exit of the baby)

In these cases, birth by cesarean section is a must.

Fibroids are not treated while a woman is pregnant. Instead, she is carefully monitored for possible complications. Usually, the myomas shrink in size after giving birth. But in the case of persistent masses, surgery is indicated, which may include ablation, surgical removal, or, if the fibroid is too large, hysterectomy.

There are many conditions that can interfere with a woman’s chances of achieving a successful pregnancy. One such condition is endometriosis. In fact, this medical condition is so serious that it can cause infertility in a woman.

What is Endometriosis?

If you will recall your human anatomy, the uterus is the reproductive organ in which the woman will carry her baby throughout pregnancy. When a mature egg is fertilized, it implants itself on the uterine wall, which is composed of two layers namely the endometrium and the myometrium. During the early phases of the menstrual cycle, endometrium starts to grow new cells and thicken in preparation for pregnancy. If implantation does not occur, the cells are shed off during menstruation.

In endometriosis, there is an abnormal growth of endometrial cells outside the uterus. Because they grow within the pelvic cavity, these cells are not shed off during menses and instead attach themselves to other reproductive organs, including the ovaries, Fallopian tubes, and behind the uterus. This abnormal growth will eventually interfere with the woman’s chances of getting pregnant. There are a small percentage of patients with endometriosis who have achieved successful conception. However, majority will not be able to conceive despite medical intervention.

Women who are suffering from endometriosis may present with a number of symptoms, which includes the following…

Cramping pelvic pain prior to or during menstruation

Heavy menstrual flow

Painful intercourse

If not treated promptly, it may lead to development of masses, cysts or lesions that will interfere with vital reproductive processes, including ovulation, sperm and ovum fertilization, and fertilized egg implantation in the uterus.

Getting Pregnant with Endometriosis

It is unfortunate that endometriosis symptoms can be so severe that it warrants intake of synthetic hormones and birth control pills which may further hinder pregnancy. If you want to get pregnant, it is strongly advised that you be thoroughly examined by your doctor.

The main treatment for endometriosis is surgical removal of the abnormal cells. However, because there is a high probability of these abnormal tissues growing back, it is vital that the couple attempt conception immediately after surgery.

In order to induce ovulation, a woman may be prescribed fertility drugs, such as Clomid or Serophene, as well as Zoladex, Synarel or Lupron. If conception cannot be achieved naturally, fertility treatments may need to be performed. One such treatment is in vitro fertilization or IVF, wherein the eggs are removed from the ovary and mixed with sperm in a laboratory dish. The fertilized egg is then injected directly into the uterus. The other recommended procedure is intrauterine insemination. Here, the chosen sperm are injected directly into the woman’s reproductive tract (either through the vagina, cervix or Fallopian tube) when ovulation has been detected. This will shorten the distance the sperm has to travel in order to fertilize the egg. Either of these two procedures may require additional treatment with fertility drugs to ensure a successful conception. Fertility experts have been found these combination treatments to be very effective in helping women diagnosed with endometriosis to conceive a child.

A deterrent to achieving a successful pregnancy is having an irregular menstrual cycle. Studies have shown that women with irregular periods have a 4 times reduction in their chances of having a baby. However, just because your period is irregular does not mean that you are infertile. Far from it! Many women with irregular menstrual cycles have been able to get pregnant just by religiously monitoring when they are ovulating.

The Problem of Irregular Periods

First off, there is the erroneous belief that all “normal” women have a regular 28 day cycle. In reality, even those who are considered “normal” will experience some irregularities in their menstrual cycle. A menstrual cycle is usually in the range of 25 to 35 days, but it can as short as 8 days to as long as 40 days. If your menstruation occurs regularly, let’s say every 35 days, that is still considered normal. However, if you skip months in your menstruation or you either bleed too little or too much, this is what you would call “irregular period”. If you are not sure that you are having an irregular period, it is highly advisable that you chart your cycle. Visit your doctor so that he or she can determine if you do indeed have an irregular period. The physician will then order tests to determine the possible causes of the irregularity, which may include an ovarian cyst or Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome.

Getting Pregnant with Irregular Periods

The dilemma that most women with irregular periods have is that it becomes very difficult to determine when they are ovulating. In order to get pregnant, you need to time intimate relations during the period when your ovary releases an egg.

One method that can help to monitor ovulation is through basal body temperature (BBT) charting. When your body is ovulating, it will be marked as a sudden spike in your basal body temperature. For BBT charting to be helpful, you need to monitor your temperature staring from Day 1 of your menstrual cycle (the first day of your menses) up to the last day (the day prior to your next menses). You can also monitor your cervical mucus rhythm together with your BBT. You will know that you are ovulating if your cervical mucus becomes thick, egg white in consistency and forms strings when you stretch it between your fingers. The main drawback to BBT and cervical mucus charting is that these tests will tell you when your ovary has released an egg. Since the egg only has a 24 to 48 hour life span, you and your spouse will have a very small window by which to achieve conception.

For women with highly irregular cycles, a better option is to purchase an ovulation detection kit. These kits are available as strips or as electronic gadgets. Every day starting from the Day 1 of your menstrual cycle, you dip the strips or the tip of the gadget in your urine. A few days prior to ovulation, there will be a spike in the levels of luteinizing hormone in your urine. Ovulation detection kits are better in comparison to BBT and cervical mucus charting because you and your spouse can already start having intimate relations BEFORE the ovary releases an egg. Having intercourse for a few days following the LH surge will give you a better chance of a successful pregnancy.

Aside from ovulation detection, it is necessary to give a woman fertility drugs to induce her ovaries to ovulate on a regular basis. These medications will also induce ovulation, thus increasing the chances of a woman to achieve pregnancy. The only drawback is that these drugs may cause hyperovulation, resulting in the release of two or more eggs. Because of this, there is a higher chance of having twins or multiple pregnancies.

For women who have been diagnosed with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome or PCOS, it is like the final farewell for any chances that they may ever have of getting pregnant. Although PCOS is considered the No. 1 cause of infertility in women, this does not mean that women with this condition will never be able to have a child. It is possible to get pregnant with PCOD, but it will be a long and laborious process. As long as the PCOS sufferer is patient and does what her doctor tells her, pregnancy can occur.

What is PCOS?

As its name denotes, Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome is characterized by the grown of multiple cysts inside a woman’s ovaries, which would, in turn, interfere with the natural process of ovulation. Women with PCOS develop many follicles, so that the release of a mature egg of good quality is prevented. Because of this, ovulation does not occur regularly. Since ovulation is unpredictable, it is very difficult to time intimate relations with the actual release of an egg.

There are only two ways by which ovulation can be monitored in patients with PCOS. A woman can monitor when she is ovulating with the help of an ovulation detection kit. However, if one of her PCOS symptoms is elevated levels of luteinizing hormone (LH) in the urine, the kit may produce false positive results. The best method for monitoring ovulation is through the use of ultrasound, which may be expensive since you will need to visit your doctor on a daily basis to have your ovaries checked.

Getting Pregnant with PCOS

Women who want to achieve pregnancy even with PCOS would need to make significant lifestyle changes and require intake of medications.

Studies have shown that many PCOS sufferers are overweight resulting from insulin resistance. If you are overweight and have PCOS, it is necessary to lose weight. It has been found that just a 5 percent weight can increase your chances of attaining pregnancy. Embark on a daily exercise regimen to get the weight off and maintain it at a healthy level.

Aside from losing weight, you need to eat more healthy foods. To aid in alleviating the problem of insulin resistance, you must reduce your intake of carbohydrates. You should also eliminate processed foods in your diet because studies have shown that these foods can cause hormonal imbalances, which may further interfere with your chances of a successful pregnancy.

Women who are suffering from PCOS and are already in their 40s would need medical intervention. Cyclic intake of clomiphene citrate (Clomid) has proven to be successful in helping women get pregnant. As the woman takes this medication, she is monitored carefully by the doctor for follicle growth and ovulation. Once the doctor has determined when a mature egg has been released, he would they advise the couple to have intimate relations. For women with insulin resistance, it may be necessary to take Metformin to aid in the regulation of this hormone.

If there is still irregularities in the release of the mature egg, injections of human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) are given to aid in the prompt and regular occurrence of ovulation. If after drug intervention pregnancy has not been achieved, it may be necessary to perform fertility procedures, such in vitro fertilization and intrauterine insemination.

If you want to know how to get pregnant fast, there is only one tip that medical professionals are sure to advise you and that is you should perform regular ovulation monitoring. To better understand what ovulation monitoring is so that you will be able to learn how to get pregnant fast, you need to know what ovulation really is.

If you recall your classes in Sex Education, your teacher had explained to you that women commonly have a 28-day menstrual cycle. In some women, their menstrual cycle can be as short as 12 days while others may have cycles longer than 30 days. The menstrual cycle is further divided into phases – follicular, ovulation, and luteal – wherein the woman’s reproductive organs are being prepared for possible pregnancy. During the follicular phase, the uterine lining is growing and thickening for implantation. On the other hand, follicles are maturing inside the ovaries. When ovulation occurs – estimated at the 14th day of the cycle, although it can happen between Days 8 and 20 – the ovary releases a mature egg. This egg has a life span of 48 hours for sperm to fertilize it. It is this very short window that women have problems in targeting.

In the past, it is recommended to monitor the exact day of ovulation with the help of basal body temperature and/or cervical mucus monitoring. BBT registers a spike in temperature while cervical mucus will have the thick consistency of egg whites during ovulation. However, studies have shown that these methods are not that effective because the couple would only have a very short period of time in which to achieve conception.

In order to get pregnant faster, it is currently recommended to use fertility monitors or ovulation prediction kits. What makes these devices and kits more effective than the earlier mentioned methods? It has been found that 36 hours BEFORE the release of a fertilized egg from the ovary, there is a sudden surge in luteinizing hormone. This hormone is detected in the urine. By timing sexual relations before ovulation and a few days after it occurs, couples will have a higher probability of having a baby. In fact, many ovulation prediction kits have a 99 percent rate of detecting luteinizing hormone surges.

In order for ovulation monitoring to work to your advantage, you might want to use an ovulation prediction kit and at the same time perform basal body temperature monitoring to increase your chances of a successful conception. Remember that you and your spouse should time intimate relations starting precisely on the day that the luteinizing hormone surge is detected up to 1 to 2 hours after there is a spike in basal body temperature.

There are many women all over the world today who would want to know how to get pregnant fast. Believe me when I tell you that there is no surefire way by which you can conceive a baby faster. But let us take a look at some basic tips on how to get pregnant fast to help you get started.

If you are just newlywed, don’t expect to conceive immediately. Studies have shown that it around 50 percent of couples will be able to achieve pregnancy within 6 months while 85 percents will conceive within one year. Just wait and let nature take its course.

Prior to attempting conception, you might want to have a complete physical examination. You need to be checked out on the state of your health. For example, if you have been starving yourself to maintain that slim figure, you are definitely not healthy enough to carry a child to term. You will need to take prenatal vitamins for a few months before you try to get pregnant. There are certain chronic illnesses, like hypertension, heart disease and diabetes, which may cause problems to pregnancy. If you and your spouse have had sexual relations with other people prior to getting married, you may also need to be checked out for untreated infections, particularly sexually transmitted diseases. If an infection is discovered, you and your spouse will need to undergo the full course of treatment prior to getting pregnant. Once your doctor has seen that the infection is fully treated, only then can you try to conceive a child.

If you still haven’t gotten pregnant after one year, the most important thing to do is to not stress out. Stress in itself can affect hormonal balance and can even prevent you from conceiving successfully. Rather than give in to stress, consult with your doctor. He or she will advise you on how to get pregnant fast. Commonly, what he or she would recommend is that you monitor when you are ovulating so that you can time intimate relations with your spouse during the period that your ovaries release an egg. We shall discuss ovulation in depth in another article.

The doctor may also advise increasing frequency of sexual intercourse. For couples who want to get pregnant faster, it is recommended that you have sex three times a week. You should also go for sexual positions that will allow sperm to remain for a longer period of time inside the woman’s reproductive tract. The missionary position is still the best position to get pregnant. However, avoid sexual positions wherein the woman is on top or standing because gravity will cause the semen to leak out. Don’t get up out of bed immediately after sex. Also, do not douche as this feminine hygiene procedure has been found to reduce fertility in women.

Surprising as it may be, there are actually a lot of couples who want to learn how to get pregnant with twins. The appeal of having twins is quite understandable. By having twins, the couple will have an instant family. If you want to know how to get pregnant with twins, there are a number of natural ways by which you can increase your chances.

First of all, you probably know that giving birth to twins has a genetic predisposition, or simply it is hereditary. You stand to have a higher probability of having twins if you or your spouse has a family history of twins. This probability is increased even more if you yourself have married a twin.

You should also consider ethnicity and body weight. Studies have shown that there is a greater chance of twinning among African American women compared to Caucasian women. Asian women have a low probability of having twins. When it comes to body weight, research published in the journal “Obstetrics & Gynecology” have shown that overweight and/or tall women have a higher chance of giving birth to twins.

Women who are age 45 and older have a 17 percent chance of having twins. The reason for this is that an older woman’s body increases higher levels of FSH to compensate for the decreasing quantity and quality of viable eggs in her ovaries. However, the higher FSH levels mean that there is a greater chance of the ovaries releasing more than one egg during ovulation. Also, older aged women who undergo IVF and other fertility procedures have a higher probability of having twins or even multiple pregnancies. This is because the fertility expert implants more than one fertilized egg per procedure, in the hope that an ovum will implant in the uterus. Sometimes, two fertilized eggs or more will implant on the uterine wall, resulting in multiple pregnancy.

One study has shown that trying to conceive immediately after discontinuing birth control pills will give a woman a higher chance of giving birth of twins. The reason for this is that – after discontinuing birth control pill intake – the body has yet to regain hormonal balance. Because of excessive hormonal fluctuations and stimulations, she may release additional mature eggs. Yet, another research study has revealed that conceiving while still breastfeeding will give you a high probability of conceiving twins. This has also been attributed to hormonal changes.

If you want to get pregnant with twins, you might want to take a closer look at your diet. An Australian study revealed that intake of folic acid prior to pregnancy yielded a 40 percent probability of conceiving twins. Take note that folic acid supplementation is necessary to prevent the development of birth defects in the baby. Another study revealed that women who eat dairy products have a 5 times higher chance of having twins. Vegans and vegetarians have a lower chance of conceiving twins. Finally, you might want to consider adding wild yams or cassava roots to your diet. The small town of Igbo-Ora in Nigeria has the highest rate of twins all over the world, and this is speculated to be attributed to the wild yams in their diet. The reason for this is that wild yams contain chemicals that cause ovarian hyperstimulation, so that more than one mature egg is released during ovulation.

Especially in societies that are matriarchal, couples desire having a baby girl for their firstborn, believing that she would be more responsible in taking care of her younger siblings later on.

Thankfully, studies on gender selection have determined that there are certain methods that you can try which may increase your probability of having a baby girl. While a 100 percent success rate is not assured, at least you should give these methods a try.

How to Get Pregnant with a Girl

While you need a Y chromosome sperm to conceive of a boy, to have a baby girl, what is required is an X chromosome sperm. This type of sperm will then fertilize the X chromosome egg that is released from the woman’s ovaries. Unlike Y chromosome sperm, X chromosome sperm cells are not particularly agile. They are very slow in swimming through the woman’s reproductive tract. However, do not be fooled by their lack of agility. These sperm cells may be slow, but they have a much longer life span than their Y chromosome counterparts. By keeping these characteristics of X chromosome sperm in mind, we can now take a look at the various methods that will help you to conceive a baby girl.

First of all, considering the fact that X chromosome sperm cells are hardier, it is important to determine the right time to perform intimate relations during the ovulation cycle. To get pregnant with a baby girl, you should start intimate relations with your spouse days before ovulation. The rationale behind this is that because the Y chromosome sperm have a shorter life span, by the time the ovary releases the egg, all these sperm cells would have already died out, leaving only the stronger X chromosome sperm. Because only the X chromosome sperm are left, you have a greater chance of having a baby girl.

Secondly, sexual positions are just as important in conceiving a girl, same as with boys. While conception of a boy requires deep penetration so that the Y chromosome sperm will have a shorter distance to meet the egg, the reverse is true for the X chromosome sperm cell. Because of its longer life span, you only need to perform sexual positions that will allow for shallow deposition of sperm. One very good example is the traditional missionary position.

Last but certainly not least, you also need to take into consideration the pH level in the vagina and cervix. Unlike Y chromosome sperm cells that thrive in an alkaline environment, X chromosome sperm survive in an acidic milieu. To increase your vaginal and cervical acidity, you should wash with vinegar and water and eat more foods that are high in acidity.

It is the desire of every couple to have a child. Some would even want specific children to be of a certain gender. While some parents would want to have a girl for their firstborn, majority desire to have a boy. Here is a guide, tip of some facts on how to get pregnant with a boy.

CLICK HERE and Discover the wonder of Pregnancy Miracle

If you want to get pregnant with a boy, there are certain methods which can help increase your chances. It should be emphasized, however, that these methods are not 100 percent guaranteed. However, there is nothing wrong about trying these procedures. Who knows? You and your spouse might get lucky and have that little boy you have long dreamed of.

To review your sex education classes, you know that in order to conceive a boy child, a Y chromosome sperm cell from the male should unite with the X chromosome egg cell from the female. Y chromosome sperm cells are very agile in comparison with X chromosome sperm. As a result, they are capable of traveling faster. However, unlike X chromosome sperm, they have a very short life span. Taking into consideration this characteristic of the Y chromosome sperm, it becomes obvious that the sperm needs to travel a much shorter distance in the woman’s reproductive tract in order to meet the egg.

One way this can be accomplished is through correct timing of intimate relations with your ovulation cycle. It is very important that the Y chromosome sperm should not wait for the egg for a prolonged period of time. For this reason, if you want to have a boy, you need to time intercourse on the exact day that you detect ovulation or the following day. This will give you a very short 24 to 48 hour window by which to get pregnant with a boy.

Another way by which you can help the Y chromosome sperm fertilize the egg faster is through doing certain sexual positions. The specific positions that will allow the sperm to meet the egg faster are those that promote deep penetration, such as the rear entry position wherein the woman is on all fours or is lying on her stomach. The reason for this position is that the sperms are deposited closest to the entrance to the cervix, thus giving the sperm a shorter distance to travel in order to fertilize the egg.

You should also take note of the pH balance of your vaginal and cervical fluids. Studies have shown that a high pH in the vagina and cervix can kill off the Y chromosome sperm. The sperm, however, thrive in an alkaline pH. In order to correct the pH level, it is advisable that you go on a low acid diet, particularly one that is rich in potassium and sodium. Eat more of foods like red meat, bananas, sweet corn, and peach.
